Aspall Hall
Aspall Hall is a former manor house that sits on an island surrounded by an oval moat. The house dates from the late-sixteenth century although altered over the following centuries, particularly its long twelve bay front created in the late-eighteenth or early-nineteenth century. A bridge gives access over the southern arm of the moat to the island, although it may have originally had a bridge across the western arm with a long drive centred on the house towards the parish church. A canal-like pond parallel to this drive has not survived, nor has a dovecote west of the moat and beside the drive. The house once had a small park with ancient woodland beyond and a number of surrounding plantations. Owned by the Chevallier family since 1702, the Aspall Hall Estate became the centre of cider production that continues today with surrounding fields developed as orchards.
